It focuses on a specific group of people or a particular interest, allowing businesses or creators to cater their products, services, or content to a well-defined audience with unique needs, preferences, or challenges.
Trust me, I’ve been there too, confused about which direction to take. But let’s hear the good news: I was also like you, and with a few simple steps, you can start uncovering the digital marketing niche that excites you the most!

Step 1: Discover What Interests You

Identify Your Passions: Think about things you love—are you obsessed with OTT platforms like Netflix or Hotstar? Or maybe you’re fascinated by the latest trends in fintech?(If you're like me and enjoy Sacred Games, try to discover how these shows create their content. Browse their social media pages and observe how you can apply your thinking to create similar content.)
Come up with ideas like creating content around these
Research Companies: Once you identify a general area of interest, list a few companies that excite you. For instance, if you love OTT, write down five major players in the industry (e.g., Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, Amazon Prime Video).
Step 2: Learn from Experts in the Field
Look Up Marketing Leaders: Every company has marketing professionals who lead their strategies. Find these experts on LinkedIn! Use boolean searches (e.g., “@ CMO Disney Hotstar”) to look them up.
Study Their Journey: Check out their career paths—notice their starting roles, skills they acquired, and their growth journey. Pay attention to:
Skills they list (e.g., SEO, analytics, content strategy)
Relevant certifications (e.g., MBA, digital marketing courses)
Personal qualities (e.g., leadership, communication)

Compare Yourself to the Experts: Identify any gaps in your skills and knowledge.

When I started, I felt the same confusion you might be feeling now. I chose a few areas I was curious about—like fintech and travel marketing—and researched multiple people in each niche.
Just like I love to hang out with people who love to talk about finance, I could talk for hours about the share market and watch hours of content about it.
Over time, I found my strengths and passions aligned best with digital marketing for financial services. I wrote about my findings and followed the paths of experts I admired, which helped me carve out my direction.
